The final day of action at the Deutschland Tour saw Team dsm-firmenich set up fast finisher Marius Mayrhofer who sprinted to third place in Bremen, with Kevin Vermaerke securing sixth overall.
Leaving Hannover on Sunday afternoon the peloton were met with the flattest stage of the race, apart from the prologue, and the day looked destined to end in a bunch sprint finish. With a five rider break going clear, the peloton was always in control and approaching the last 30 kilometres the break was all but caught as some teams looked to split things in a crosswind section. The team were attentive and made the split but once the road changed direction the two groups came back together, before the break was eventually caught. Once onto the circuit in Bremen it was clear the race would end in a sprint so the team worked well to keep Vermaerke safe on GC, but also position Mayrhofer for the finale. Good work by the guys saw both those goals achieved, with Vermaerke bringing Mayrhofer into a good position under the flamme rouge. Finishing fast and with a good kick, Mayrhofer was able to pass some riders in front of him and take a fine third place; rounding out a solid week of racing by the team in Germany.
