Today Development Team DSM took on Fleche du Sud, a 154 kilometre race in Luxembourg. The day was animated by a five rider breakaway, with Mauro Brenner representing the team up the road and keeping an eye on proceedings. The group worked well together, extending their lead out to two and a half minutes, and as the breakaway fractured on the approach to the finish, Mauro held on as long as he could, but it wasn’t to be. His efforts rewarded him the most combative rider of the day.
As the peloton prepared for a sprint behind the remaining breakaway rider, the team geared up to position Patrick Eddy for the fast kick to the line to compete for the podium places. The team did an excellent job and Patrick rounded off the podium with an impressive third place, to complete a good day out in Luxembourg for our Development program.
After the race Patrick said: “We came into today with the goal to have someone in the break. Mauro got away early with four others and had a really strong ride, staying away until the base of the final climb and was awarded the most combative rider. Back in the peloton the boys positioned me really well into each climb. It ended in a reduced bunch kick with one escapee taking the win, and I was able to sprint to 3rd. I’m ecstatic to take my first podium in DSM colours, so a big thanks to the boys for their hard work today.”
