Adam is a new face in the team for 2023 as he makes the step up from juniors and joins the U23 ranks with Development Team dsm-firmenich. Hailing from a cycling family with both his dad and granddad passionate about bikes, it took until Adam was ten years old before he swung his leg over the saddle for the first time; previously trying his hand at a variety of sports including gymnastics, tennis, and even some minigolf.
Entering the mud-pit so to say, Adam first took on some cyclocross and slowly transitioned more into road racing where he combined the two – as he fell more in love with the sport.
“I enjoy the freedom cycling gives. From my home I can go out on the bike, leave the city, and enjoy nature, and clear my head.”
Climbing his way up the ranks, 2021 was a “surprisingly good year” by his own accounts as he took several good results, but an unfortunate case of Covid and a longer than expected recovery hindered Adam’s 2022 campaign. Nonetheless, it has left him “incredibly motivated” to get stuck in with the team going forward.
He will be joining some familiar faces too as he raced alongside Frank [Aron Ragilo] and Vlad [Van Mechelen] in the same junior team in 2021, and he knows fellow Czech rider Milan [Kadlec] well too. In fact, one of Adam’s favourite moments on the bike was from the Peace Race in 2021 and involves Milan…
On the penultimate stage both he and Milan were involved in a crash before they both made the break the following day. Riding well together, the Czech-duo ensured the break would go on to take the stage win – with Adam collecting second place plus the KOM jersey and Milan taking third. Reminiscing Adam laughed that “it’s funny how we’ve ended up in the same team now, maybe it was meant to happen.”
Off the bike, Adam describes himself as a bit of an introvert, but his friendly persona and talkative nature belies that; and he likes to be kept busy, saying he struggles to sit still and do completely nothing. Oh, and did we also mention he’s also a massive Pokémon fan and claims that he could almost identify any Pokémon from just their outline!
